Blue Anchor Project Slams Rep. Jared Golden’s Tariff Law Proposal, Hosts Community Voter Celebration in Lewiston on Saturday

LEWISTON, MAINE — The Blue Anchor Project is forcefully responding to Rep. Jared Golden’s proposed universal 10% tariff law, calling the policy an “economic gut-punch to working families” and a “complete abandonment of public accountability.”

Golden’s legislation would raise prices on everything from food and fuel to medicine — a direct hit to families already struggling to get by. He’s pushing this legislation while continuing to refuse to hold a single in-person town hall with his constituents.

His stance breaks from his former boss, Senator Susan Collins, from his own party, and most importantly, from the people he was elected to represent. At a time when folks are asking for relief and accountability, Golden is doubling down on Trump-style policies — and avoiding the very public he’s impacting.

“Jared Golden just gleefully threw his constituents under the bus and is actively supporting the destruction of our economy,” said Liam Kent, co-founder and Chairman of the Blue Anchor Project. “He is unfit for office and should be primaried — because he cannot be trusted with the job he was hired to do. He’s proposing a permanent price hike on everyday people, showing complete disregard for the voters he represents — and dismissing them as ‘buzzy,’ politically motivated, and dishonest.

He is a prime example of why we launched the Blue Anchor Project: to make sure voters are heard, to hold our leaders accountable, and — when they refuse to listen — to help elevate voices and candidates who will. We started this work because we want Democrats to win — but they can’t win if they keep ignoring the people they were elected to serve.

Voters are demanding leadership. Senator Cory Booker’s 25-hour stand on the Senate floor is proof that Democrats can rise to meet the moment — by showing up, listening, and fighting for the people. That’s the kind of leadership we need more of. We’re here to rebuild this party from the ground up — starting with the truth.”

Community Voter Celebration: Saturday, April 5 — Lewiston, Maine

This Saturday, the Blue Anchor Project — in official partnership with the national Hands Off! Day of Action — will host a Community Voter Celebration at The Pub at Baxter Brewing Co. in Lewiston, Maine. The event invites community members to come together for conversation, connection, and civic engagement in a relaxed setting.

The event was planned weeks before Golden’s latest tariff proposal — and he was formally invited to attend. Instead, he responded via the press, calling the event “buzzy” and dismissing the participants as politically motivated and dishonest.

Now, just days later, he’s proposing a sweeping economic policy that would raise costs for the very people he’s choosing to ignore.

“If you’re frustrated — and ready for something better — come join us,” said Kent. “We already have a great crowd planning to attend. This is a space for community, accountability, and a better direction forward.”

Event Details:

What: Community Voter Celebration (in partnership with Hands Off!)

Where: The Pub at Baxter Brewing Co., 130 Mill St, Lewiston, ME 04240

When: Saturday, April 5 | 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM EDT

The event is part of the Blue Anchor Project’s broader effort to host open, unscripted town hall-style events in all 47 Northeast congressional districts by the end of 2025 — ensuring voters have a voice, especially when their elected officials refuse to show up.

About the Blue Anchor Project:

The Blue Anchor Project is a grassroots political action committee led by organizers, not consultants — created by people who were tired of watching the Democratic Party leave working people behind.

We fight to reconnect Democrats with the working-class voters who built this party and this country. We hold elected officials accountable, not to tear them down, but to make sure they serve the people who elected them. We push back against both Republican extremism and Democratic complacency, because neither one serves working people.

Right now, we’ve launched a bold plan: By the end of 2025, we will hold public, unscripted town halls in all 47 congressional districts across the Northeast. No staged events. No political theater. Just real conversations with real people.

We’re rebuilding the Democratic coalition from the ground up — uniting progressives, moderates, and working-class voters who want leaders that actually listen.

This isn’t a think tank. It’s not a vanity project. It’s a fight — and we’re in it to win.
